Here’s a thought. Listening to the Radio 5 Live phone-in yesterday morning it struck me how the power of words is having such a strong influence over our lives. Now this is not to belittle any individuals circumstances but just maybe, we are talking ourselves into ‘recession’ when all you hear are statements that are full of…
…doom & gloom
…how difficult it’s going to be
…how IT’S on the way
…how we are on the brink
Isn’t it about time a leader stood up and spoke confidently about how even though it maybe tough today, there is still a brighter future available for everyone.
Isn’t it time that we spoke favourably into our country and believed for the best!
Isn’t about time a leader actual led us.
I don’t know if we are on the edge of recession or not. I’m not ignorant and it’s not that I don’t care. What I do know is that worrying about it doesn’t change it. I also know that speaking a ‘positive mantra’ won’t change it either. However I am determined to not sit, fearful, waiting for IT to arrive and act defeated when I don’t need to.
Are these thoughts too harsh? Don’t think so.
Are they too simplistic? Probably.
Are they from someone unaffected? Certainly not!
Worry will kill you before your time. As Jesus said “…do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:25-33 NIV)
I know that the local Church can be the leader in a time of uncertainty. The problem is that too many Churches live with the uncertainty of their ability to lead at this time. Love to hear your thoughts on this!
