Got behind in my reading of Matthew’s Gospel over the last few days – no excuses really, just got caught up in other reading, prep and meetings. Anyway – sat and read chapters 13, 14 & 15 today and here are my stand out verses…
13 v 44
‘The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field’
WOW!! Do you not feel that sometimes in the act of being ‘busy’ in life we can lose that incredible sense of excitement we had when we first discovered the kingdom of God? Reading this reminded me to not take forgranted the greatness of God. All that He gave for me and ALL that I should give for Him.
This life I live in Christ Jesus is priceless.
The sense of purpose about the man as he does what he needs to do so that he can have THAT field because of the treasure he knew was in there. That’s what I have access to everyday – the treasures that God has laid up for me in my future.
‘Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.’
When was the last time I stepped out of the boat? Imagine the emotions that Peter must have felt, the adrenaline rush, the excitement of it all. Doing something different, doing something for the first time – I think I need to be stepping out of the boat more often. Just need to remember to keep focused on Jesus.
‘But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean’.’
Words are powerful. They betray us. They do reveal what is truly inside of our hearts. The adage ‘rubbish in, rubbish out’ is such a powerful truth that should not be ignored. I must continue to be careful about the influences in my world that can effect my heart – I only want to speak words of life.
How about you?
