It Is God Who Gives

You have given him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah. For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head. He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever. His glory is great through your salvation; splendour and majesty you bestow on him. For you make him most blessed forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence [Psalm 21:2-6]

As we walk with God, travel on the journey with Him through life, there are a number of things that maybe, as we mature, we become more aware of. I’ll give you my list.

One would be how little I really know. About anything, not just the spiritual stuff.
A second would be how much more I need God than I probably admit. His presence makes the difference.
The third would be how easily I forget that it’s His presence that makes the difference and just get on with life on my own.

Maybe a fourth would be recognising how patient God is with me, despite these first three on the list.

I could go on. Maybe you have some you would add to the list.

Without God, I can probably manage, but I just know that something is missing. In the midst of all the narratives that influence and impact my life, making time for the most important, what God has to say, cannot be overlooked.

Maybe the simple thing is to just take that time and acknowledge all the little ways in which God enhances my life, brings out the best in me, makes me look better than I really am, that in Him I am truly blessed.

He gives me my hearts desires. He answers my prayers.
He meets me with all that I need.
He crowns me with honour.
He gives me life, in all its fullness.
He makes me blessed.

He desires for me to enjoy being in His presence.

As much as I might think that all that I am, all that I could ever achieve or ever dream about in life comes from myself, I would be wrong. All that I have comes from my Father in Heaven. The one who loves to ‘fulfil the desires of my heart’, ‘who takes pleasure in the prosperity of His people’, ‘in whose presence there is fullness of joy’. I could go on.

It is God who gives. And all this despite my best efforts to mess things or miss things. It is God who gives, and it is in all this wonderful small ways that I must notice His giving and His love toward me, that I would rejoice, exalt His name and sing praise to Him, every day.

What have you forgotten that God has done or is doing for you?
What do you need to say thank you to God for?

Your ‘Now God’ Moment

Choosing God is not always easy.

We can know that it’s the right thing to do but maybe when we begin to think about the consequences of that choice we can be tempted to back off from actually following through.

Don’t give up on that first decision. Loyalty to God will always bring reward from God. He loves  it when we put Him first. When we acknowledge Him and set His way above all others, I think we put a smile on Gods face. I have this thought that we put ourselves into the position for a ‘now God’ moment.

When Daniel said no to eating what had been presented to idols and honoured God with this loyal to God choice, He placed himself in the place for a ‘now God’ moment. You can read about it Daniel chapter 1.

Now God had caused the official to show favour and sympathy to Daniel [Dan 1:9]

At the time it can seem impossible. Our thinking gets challenged. How can we choose God? We can’t see the good in this. What if it doesn’t work out? Yet, in our heart we know that going with God is right.

So be encouraged and go for it. Lets be people who put themselves in the place where God has to move, to cause the favour of God to be presented in the situations and circumstances around us. It will be an adventure. It will probably be a little bit scary. It will definitely mean holding on to your faith in God and putting your trust in Him.

Above all though, I believe the other side of the decision to stay loyal to God will be such a great place to get to. Just look at Daniel. He was seen as 10 x better than everyone else. God gave him wisdom to solve enigmas and riddles. He was saved from the lion’s den. Gods favour was all over him and I would be happy for some of that.
