Ready

It might be late on a Saturday night but after a busy day I am ready.

Ready for Sunday. Ready for getting to God’s House. Ready to gather with other believers. Ready to worship. Ready to receive all that God has for me. Ready to respond to God and to build others too.

I know that some may think I’m making too much of big deal about Sunday. Maybe it even smacks a little of religion but I promise you that’s not my intention.

I just have a desire for more of God. I know I can encounter God at home but I can also encounter God in His House. When we come together as a family of believers something happens. Where two or three are gathered in My Name (Jesus) I will be with them.

With a heart that wants to see as many as want to get the most out of their relationship with God and grow in their knowledge of Him, my encouragement is simple ~ let’s position ourselves in preparation to receive. Let’s get to our local church.

Special Moments

Every relationship needs special moments.

That first moment when you meet your special someone. That moment when you try and pluck up the courage to talk to her, especially awkward when there is plenty of ‘setting up’ going on by others. The exchange of numbers. The phone call to check they are alright. The next time you are together. A walk around the lake. Holding hands. Talking and talking (and I mean talking).

Special moments. Daft stuff really but when you look back you can recognise them as pivotal moments. Those times that make the journey worthwhile and that now, after nearly 21 years of marriage, bring a happy smile to my face.

The same is true for my relationship with God. From the moment of realisation that I needed to accept Him for myself and not just because my dad and mum had. Getting baptised. Being filled with the Holy Spirit. Finding myself leaning up against the church organ after coming round from having been overwhelmed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Just learning to appreciate and have an awareness of God’s presence. Incredible moments when the Word of God hits you between the eyes, like they are speaking just to you.

Moments. Many moments. Special God encounter moments. You can’t necessarily build a relationship on them alone but they definitely make the journey what it is. Highlights and marker experiences along the way. Proof of someones love for me. Proof to me of God and His interest in me, plain little me.

Last Sunday was one of those moments. Unexpected in some sense. A Sunday night service hijacked by the power of God. An awareness of His presence. His peace that goes beyond all understanding. His power moving by the Holy Spirit and working in people’s lives. That never gets old.

Here’s the thing I have discovered about such moments. You have to put yourself in the place where they might happen. You have to step out and ask the girl, you have to pursue her, learn to appreciate her and understand how she ticks. There is often a little bit of inconvenience, a little bit of risk, some faith maybe.

It’s true with God too. When His people gather together as family, in His House, then anything can happen. You just have to be there to experience it though. I know that God can move in your living room but there is something powerful when Church is filled with believers. That atmosphere of faith, a determined focus on God, without distraction, time set aside to lift up His name and then allowing Him to have His way. Amazing.

I can’t make you be there, all I can do is encourage you to position yourself in the place where God encounter moments can take place. It may be difficult, inconvenient or a little bit risk but the step of faith on your part will be so worth it.

You Need Your Own Revelation

’Surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it.’ And he was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!’ Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had out at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. [Genesis 28:16-18]

When was the last time you experienced God as if it were like the first time you had ever experienced God?

We can know about walking with God.
We can even know how to walk with God.

However, we need to experience the wonder of walking with God for ourselves.

Knowledge is acceptable and useful, and there is no shortage of available information to assist with that pursuit. Lots of people are well-informed. When it comes to God, you just can’t beat personal revelation.

God was already the God of Abraham & Isaac. Although that was true for the next generation, each one of them needed to know God for themselves. It was not enough to live off the previous generations experience. Great though that may be we need our own story, our own encounter.

In Genesis 28 Jacob had just that.
He had a moment of revelation that changed him.
He recognised God in a new way.
He discovered God in an unexpected place.
He had a revelation that caused him to worship God.
It was something that he would always remember.

That day was a red-letter day for Jacob. A life-changing experience. It impacted him beyond more than mere knowledge. Not only that it impacted his family and the generations that would follow.

What are those moments for you?
When was the last time you were stopped in your tracks and experience a fresh revelation of God? One that caused you to worship Him?

God Encounters Make a Difference

Reading through the bible in six months certainly makes for a challenge. But I really enjoy getting my teeth into reading the scriptures. They are a real good old fashioned God encounter for me, which makes them vital to my walk as a Christian.

When was the last time you had a God encounter?

Excited about Sunday as we just take a glimpse at the difference such encounters can make. God encounters have taken ordinary men and women and seen them do extraordinary things…Abraham, Noah, Jacob, Moses, Gideon, David, Paul, the Disciples and many modern day heroes of the faith too.

At some point there was an encounter which was the catalyst for a transformation. A transformation that enabled them to rise to the possibilities that God had laid out before them.

Are you ready to get to grips with God and not let go until He blesses you?
Until the breakthrough comes?
Until the healing is evident?
Until the life is won?
Until you are filled with the Holy Spirit?
Whatever it is for you…get with God and let Him have His way.

What are you believing God for today?
